A girl was standing on the roof of a tall building.

After finding out that her husband was cheating on her, she wanted to end with her life.

Not daring for some time, eventually she made a step forth.

The girl fell fast to the ground, and before the death the fear filled her soul.

But suddenly she felt like she was in some ones embrace.

Opening her eyes she saw an angel, who was holding her in his hands.

– Why didn’t you let me fall? – She asked with anger.

– I will let you go if you agree to die understanding that there won’t be any memories of you left on earth, nothing.

– How is that? – asked the girl in surprise.

– You don’t have children, who would remember you, your mother is old and she will die soon.

And everyone else…they will forget about you soon…

– And my husband? He will blame himself for my death.

If he will feel remorse all his life, he will remember me.

– That won’t happen, he doesn’t love you, he is happy with another.

And he won’t blame himself for a long time, soon he will forget you.

– Fine, I believe you. But I have things, photographs.

– Your apartment will burn down after one year. And all your things will turn into ash…

– But my friends have photos of me.

– You don’t have friends, – the angel said quite coldly.

– But my acquaintances…I am, for example, on the collective school photos.

Suddenly, the angel started to unclamp his hands.

– You are letting me go because I proved to you that there will be memories about me left? – The girl asked mockingly.

– No. You are clinging to the strings so hard; you are convincing me that I would let you die, just like others are clinging to some futile opportunities so that they could live.

I don’t want to spend these moments on you, because I could help people during that time.

Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel

Jeremiah 2:4 (NASB)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse
The Lord chose the tribes of Israel and the house of Jacob to be His own special people, and He made a conditional covenant with them on Mount Sinai.

They were sanctified to the Lord and became His consecrated nation. The nation of Israel was set apart as God’s portion, not only collectively but individually.

Each generation was to be holy unto the Lord. Each person was to hear and obey the holy law of the Lord God of Israel.

The Nation of Israel was to remain separated from the un-consecrated, gentile nations, who surrounded their borders. They were not to be influenced by their uncircumcised, pagan neighbours. They even made a covenant with God to do everything that had commanded them.

However, time and again they broke their covenant with the Lord, and lusted after foreign gods.

Through disobedience, and unabashed idolatry, God’s people were divided into two, separate kingdoms.

Both the southern kingdom of Judah and the northern state of Israel received multiple warnings to repent of their sins, turn back to God and fulfil their covenant promise.

However, their ongoing disobedience to hearken to the voice of the Lord, and their ungodly alliances with their idolatrous neighbours, resulted in God’s blistering denunciation of their ungodly ways, and many prophetic warnings of severe punishment, were issued – through holy men of God.

Prophets were raised up to warn the people to repent of their sin and return to the Lord, or suffer the consequences of disobedience.. and in this second chapter of Jeremiah, is a condensed synopsis of Israel’s incredible unfaithfulness, which is enumerated throughout the entire Old Testament history.

They were to hear the word of the Lord, to listen to this message of God and to give ear to His Word.

They were to pay attention to His instruction and obey His commands.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of the Lord and this nation was instructed to Listen to the word of the Lord, and to Hear all that He was saying.

They were to heed His Word, pay attention to what God was saying, and they were to trust Him to carry out all He had promised to their forefathers.

A simple reading of Old Testament scripture, clearly identifies the persistent and ongoing unfaithfulness of Israel’s ancestors, despite the wonderful faithfulness of God.

It caused the Lord to rigorously contend with them, and to call on heaven and earth to witness Israel’s gross apostasy.

My people have changed their glory for that which does not profit, was God’s disconsolate evaluation. Be appalled, O heavens at this, and shudder.

Be very desolate, declared the Lord, in great anguish of heart.

It may be easy for believers in the church age to criticise the nation of Israel, for their waywardness and to decry their wretched apostasy and refusal to hearken to the Word of the Lord.

But should we not rather, reflect on our own conduct and examine ourselves to see if we truly hear the word of the Lord, and hearkened to His voice in word, deed, mind and motive.

All scripture is written for our learning, and elements in Israel’s history have been recorded for our learning… making them an ensample to us, who have come after – to live godly lives and to hear and apply the word of the Lord.

May we be careful not to fall into the careless ways of Israel, but to learn from their waywardness, so that we may live godly in Christ Jesus.. in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith and in purity of heart, to the glory of God.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have not listened to Your voice or responded to Your word, but followed my own way and been influenced by things that dishonour Your name. Keep me low at the cross and broken before You. Open my ears to hear Your voice and open my eyes so that I may follow in Your way. As I consider Israel’s failure to listen to Your word and obey Your voice, help me to be attentive to all that You would teach me, and may I honour Your name in all I am and all I do, to Your praise and glory,
Yours, totally Yours!
The wonder of it!
To be, so small,
A little nobody,
And, yet, to hold the gaze
Of the Lord of the Universe.
It is not for my merit,
That You attend my supplication.

All I have read, or heard, or done,

A young man working in the army was constantly humiliated because he believed in God.

One day the captain wanted to humiliate him before the troops.

He called the young man and said:
– Young man come here, take the key and go and park the Jeep in front.

The young man replied: – I cannot drive!

The captain said: – Well then ask for assistance of your God! Show us that He exist!

The young man takes the key and walked to the vehicle and begins to pray……

He parks the jeep at the place PERFECTLY well as the captain wanted.

The young man came out of the jeep and saw them all crying.

They all said together: – We want to serve your God!

The young soldier was astonished, and asked what was going on?

The CAPTAIN crying opened the hood of the jeep by showing the young man that the car had no engine.

Then the boy said: See?

This is the God I serve,

THE GOD OF IMPOSSIBLE, the God who gives life to what does not exist.

You may think there are things still impossible BUT WITH GOD EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

TODAY’S VERSE

The meaning of Hosea is ‘Salvation’, and in the book of Hosea we read the amazing history of a faithful, prophet of God, who is instructed to marry a prostitute.. but she continues her harlotry throughout their marriage.

The shocking nature of Hosea’s marriage is difficult for us to comprehend. And yet this is what happened in the life of this godly man, and is recorded for our learning.

Throughout the book we see a sharply defined parallel between.. a) Hosea and his unfaithful wife, Gomer and b) the Lord God of our salvation, and the apostate nation of Israel.

For most of the book we read about the heart-breaking, life-story of a man… married to a wanton woman, who repeatedly betrays him with many lovers, and which paints a graphic picture of Israel’s unfaithfulness to the Lord, and her ongoing idolatry .. which included the sins of the peoples and the wickedness of the priests.

In the final verses of the book we discover the depth of God’s love for Israel, who are urged to repent of their sins and finally to benefit from God’s gracious blessings and everlasting faithfulness – just as Gomer finally repented of her adultery and unfaithfulness. Nevertheless, we continue to be astonished about Israel’s long-term ingratitude towards their Saviour, and are ashamed to recognise some similar failings in our own lives, when we have left our first love, or wandered far from the God of our salvation

One can almost feel the intense pain that God felt, as we read.. When Israel was a youth I loved him – and out of Egypt I called My son. It was love for the little nation of Israel that cause God to take Abraham out of his pagan country, in Chaldea, and it was by grace that God promised to make him into a great nation – through whom all the families of the earth would be blessed.

It was out of love that God chose Israel to become His peculiar people and a chosen nation, and it was God’s love that protected them from the enemies that encompassed them, and provided for them in the wilderness, and in the promised land of Canaan.

It was out of love that God determined that Israel would be the people by which the Scriptures would be written and though whom the promised Messiah would be born. And love for His chosen nation caused God to reveal, to Pharaoh himself, that Israel were His special people, His adopted son and His chosen heritage!

The more God cared for Israel, the greater was their apostasy, and yet in His anger and wrath, the Lord remembered mercy, and we discover that the day is coming when God’s people will be ultimately restored.

There is no hint that this Old Testament verse refers to anything other than Israel’s deliverance from Egypt – When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son. Israel were delivered from Egypt at the time of the first Passover supper, when the first-born of unbelieving Egypt were slaughtered by the angel of death. But Matthew, was prompted.. by the Holy Spirit, to apply this same verse to the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose parents fled into Egypt for a season, to escape the slaughter of those innocent babies, when the wicked king Herod heard of His birth. And so we read of the Lord Jesus – out of Egypt I called My Son.

God’s promise to ultimately restore Israel as His chosen people, through Hosea’s prophecy, still stands – but it will happen at God’s time and in God’s way. Although Israel rejected their Messiah and crucified their King, it was love that caused the Father to send His only begotten Son into the world, to redeem mankind from their sin.. and it was love that cause the Lord Jesus to set aside His heavenly glory, and be born into the fallen human race, so that He could shed His own shed blood – which alone is has the power to forgive the sins of ALL who will call on the name of the Lord, for salvation.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing story of Hosea, whose life became such a beautiful picture of Your love for Israel and such an amazing comfort for all Your children. Thank You that You are a faithful God and that in Your mercy You have done all that are necessary for me to be forgiven of my sins – past, present and future – by faith in Christ. Thank You that by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, I am eternally Yours. And thank You, that nothing separate me from Your love, and that nothing can pluck me out of Your hands. Keep me faithful to my calling, in Jesus name I pray. AMEN. … More TODAY’S VERSE
